THE DeLUXE

The DeLuxe is an Archtop guitar, 100% hand carved and hand crafted by Luthier Greg DeLuis, played by and designed for guitarist Rick Mitarotonda of Goose. 

It’s a nod to the venerable Gibson ES-150, Charlie Christian’s axe of choice, with some Drac-ish design cues. The idea was to create something that honored that lineage while maintaining my personal design aesthetic and being geared toward a modern player. 

To me, the archtop guitar is the pinnacle of the luthier’s art, but also has the potential to be more versatile than people give them credit for. Practitioners of this form (D’Aquisto and others) are what inspired me since the beginning of my career to explore luthiery and the intersection of art, object, and function.

This guitar also represents an alternative to the more often seen flat-top, particularly outside the jazz scene.
