EARLY INFLUENCES
"From a very early age I loved guitars. I remember so vividly when, in high school, I picked up Irving Sloane’s book, “Steel-string guitar construction” how much it affected me and basically sealed my fate of becoming a luthier. Even though I was a sculpture major in college, intent on being a fine artist, I always wanted to work with guitars. The chapter on Jimmy D’Aquisto really opened my eyes to the highest form of luthiery, which is to say, handcrafted guitars as a medium of fine art. His work was beyond anything I had ever seen. I was in awe of the way Monteleone could make something so unbelievably elegant and powerful at the same time. These guitars were always done by hand. This is how I began my journey, by looking up to makers who put in the time and years and literally sacrificed their bodies to make beautiful guitars." -Greg DeLuis
WHY HANDCRAFTING?
"While the use of automated machines, CNC, is pretty standard among all major brands, we are now seeing them used in the smallest of shops. Back in the early days of D’Angelico, D’Aquisto and Monteleone there were no real shortcuts as everything was done by hand. The reality is that nothing is done on CNC that is better than the best guitars made in the world that are done by hand. From a collectors standpoint, it’s still the handmade guitars that are the most valuable. Even now, Monteleone is still making some of the nicest guitars ever made still with a relatively old world process. All of my heroes made guitars by hand, and that’s why I’ve chosen this methodology when it comes to my own brand." -Greg DeLuis
